What does a mouth yeast infection look like? White patches appear in the mouth, palate and around the lips. You may also notice a thick white substance occurring in the mouth. There can also be some cracking, redness and soreness at the corners of the mouth. An oral yeast infection may or not be painful but if you suffer from any of the following symptoms you probably have a mouth yeast infection so it is advised that you see your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.

Causes of a Mouth Yeast Infection
The number one cause for a mouth yeast infection is the overuse of antibiotic drugs. People take antibiotics to get rid of disease-causing bacteria which in turn, kill the harmless bacteria as well. Yeast then starts to grow in an imbalance and then multiplies and results in a yeast infection.

Yeast also tends to flourish in people that have weak immune systems. Steroids and some cancer medications will weaken the immune system and therefore allow an overgrowth in yeast. People with diabetes and AIDS also tend to be more prone to mouth yeast infections because their immune systems have been compromised.
