Can Using An Over-The-Counter Cream Cause a Yeast Infection?

Many women use over the counter yeast infection remedies even before they get an infection. This is because they think that taking anti-fungal medication and creams before getting an infection will prevent an infection. This is completely untrue!! If the medication is not needed, it will cause a chemical imbalance in the vagina. This will then result in an fungus infection. You should never use anti-fungal treatment before you are diagnosed with a yeast infection.

Mutating Candida (What causes yeast infections when in excess)

Using over the counter yeast infection products before you have an infection will cause the harmless Candida Albicans yeast living in your vagina to mutate and multiply. When Candida Albicans mutates it results in an excess of fungus and creates a yeast infection.

Once a yeast infection has occurred from the over the counter yeast cream it will no longer be effective at killing the yeast. By applying the cream before you had an infection you have produced a yeast resistant to the specific medication. This means that you will need to use a different and stronger medication to kill the yeast. Visiting your doctor will be a must so he or she can prescribe you an oral anti fungal medication. Even though oral medications are effective they do have some side effects. Over time they cause chemical imbalances in your intestines and weaken your immune system.

If you do not have an infection there is no need to treat it with medication. It is fine to take natural preventative measures such as eating yogurt and drinking cranberry juice but never take a cream or medication that is specifically used to treat fungal infections. This will in no way prevent an infection and in some cases cause and make a yeast infection even worse.

I found your blog via Google blog search while searching for bacterial infections. I find your post regarding very interesting to me and it is very creative I must say that your blog is good. Keep up the great work on a really high class resource. There are as many cures for a bacterial vaginal infection as there are causes, with the scales balanced firmly in favor of the cures section. Once again thanks for the great article.7841461

My girlfriend and I have been dating for like 2 years. She always seems to get what she thinks is a yeast infection right before her period. She won’t go to the doctor because she is embarrassed about it….. She has tried a few products from CVA pharmacy before her period to see if it works, but nothing seems to be working….. Anyone have any advice on what I should tell her? Should I encourage her to go to the doctors???? or maybe a walk in clinic???

    Thanks
    Steve.

    Hello Steve,

Thank you for the comment. I would highly stress that your girlfriend does go see a doctor immediately! It is important to find out if it is a yeast infection or some other kind of infection. Unfortunetely a lot of sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia and gonorrhea have the same symptoms as a yeast infection. However, it might be always reoccurring because she has not treated it properly or is doing nothing to prevent it from occurring every month. There the a lot of natural remedies that will prevent and cure yeast infections but we need to know whether it is indeed a yeast infection in the first place. Reassure your girlfriend that there is nothing to be embarrassed about since we all get yeast infections at one time or another. Good luck to you!

Thanks for your response. We did find out the problem. It was not a yeast infection, but an STD like you suggested. Long story short, we are no longer together.

    Thanks though for your response.

  6. Thanks for the helpful information, my cousin suffers from chronic yeast infections so hopefully your post can hope!
